BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PAN AMERICAN RACQUETBALL CONFEDERATION (PARC)
PARC was originally discussed and formatted at the Tournament of the Americas in 1985 in San Jose Costa Rica. Keith Calkins from the United States of America became interim President when PARC was formalized at the IRF World Championships held in Orlando, Florida, USA. Finally, PARC began to be formulated as an Organization in 1987 at the Tournament of the Americas in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. Constitution was approved at this meeting. Here some historic milestones:
- Accepted on the program of the Pan American Games - 1988 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
- Accepted as a full medal sport in the Central America Caribbean Games - 1990.
- Accepted as a full medal sport in the Central American Games, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
- Competed as a full medal sport in the 1995 Pan American Games, Mar Del Plata, Argentina. PARC and the sport have been a part of all subsequent Pan Am Games through Lima 2019 except in Rio de Janeiro 2007.
Racquetball has been a part of most multi-sport competitions of the Americas since 1990. Pan American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games, Central American Games, Bolivarian Games and South American Games and held the Pan Am Championships since 1985 yearly except in 2000. The first President of PARC was Keith Calkins from 1986 to 2000, then Osvaldo Maggi from Argentina chair the organization between 2000 and 2012. Actually Marcelo Gomez from Costa Rica is the President since 2012.
The PARC is a proud member of the International Racquetball Federation (IRF), Association of Pan American Sports Confederations (ACODEPA) and Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports).
